A young woman who attacked another woman outside a shopping centre has been put on probation by a Judge.

Niamh Thompson, of Thorndale, Letterkenny attacked the other woman outside Letterkenny Shopping Centre on the afternoon of October 12th, 2018.

The victim was set upon and had her hair pulled in an altercation which was captured on CCTV.

The 20-year-old accused woman appeared at Letterkenny District Court charged with assaulting the other woman.

Solicitor Patsy Gallagher said the incident arose out of a situation earlier inside the shop when words were exchanged between the women.

Mr Gallagher said Ms Thompson has a child by her ex-boyfriend who was dating the victim.

He said “Remarks were made to her (Ms Thompson) in the shop and she raised her hand to remonstrate with the victim.

“It all lasted 30 seconds and it was simply a domestic situation that got out of hand. She apologises and simply wants to move on.”

Judge Paul Kelly imposed a period of probation on Ms Thompson who pleaded guilty to the assault.
