Did not heed Gardaí and one charge became three

July 12, 2020

A LETTERKENNY man who did not take the direction of Gardaí appeared before court on thee charges this week.

Ryan Scanlon (20 ) of Meadowbank Park, Letterkenny was before Buncrana District Court charged in connection with an incident at St James Court, Ballyliffin.

The incident occurred between 11.50pm on January 11 and 12.10am on January 12, 2020.

Gardaí were on mobile patrol when they received a report of a disturbance at the address in question. When spoken to, Scanlon became suspicious and was searched under the misuse of drugs act.

A small bag of cannabis was found in Scanlon’s possession.

Scanlon acknowledged that the substance was cannabis, which he said was for his own personal use.

Scanlon was asked to leave the area when he became abusive to members of the Gardaí and the general public.

“He is a young man in his 20s who traveled to the area from Letterkenny for an event,” solicitor for Scanlon, Mr Rory O’Brien, told the court.

“There was far too much alcohol taken and he engaged inappropriately.”

Judge Paul Kelly said had Scanlon taken the advice of Gardaí, he would have been facing one charge as opposed to three.

Scanlon, who has no previous convictions, was asked to pay €250 towards Letterkenny Youth and Community Club.
