A St Johnston man who allegedly struck his sister in the face with a plate has appeared in court.

Gary Keys, aged 37, appeared at Letterkenny District Court after being charged under the Non-Fatal Offenses Against the Person Act on Saturday night last.

Gardai told the court than when arrested on a Section 3 assault the accused replied “I didn’t do it.”

Gardai said there was an objection to bail as the accused and his alleged victim lived in the house and she was living in fear of him.

Judge Paul Kelly asked Gardai how serious was the woman’s injuries and if she had gone to hospital.

Gardai said she had a cut to her eyebrow after Keys, of Cavanacaw, St Johnston, struck her with a plate but that she had refused medical attention.

Solicitor for the accused Mr Gordon Curley told the court that he had contacted two of Keys’ sisters but they refused to allow him to stay at their addresses.

Judge Kelly said he had no choice but to remand in custody for fear of intimidation of witnesses.

He adjourned the case until next Monday.
