A drunk driver was arrested following a garda chase in Sligo last night.
The male driver was found to be five times over the legal limit and has no driving licence or insurance.
The man evaded gardaí as they made their way from Sligo Town to Grange. Gardaí reported that the suspect made numerous counts of dangerous driving before they were brought to a halt.
The alert was first raised in the early hours of this Sunday morning when Gardai in the control room in Sligo Garda Station, monitoring CCTV cameras, observed a vehicle driving erratically travelling through Sligo town onto the Bundoran Road.
Garda patrol cars were dispatched, but when the Gardaí approached the car the driver failed to stop.
The driver managed to travel up to 16km away before being stopped by gardaí near the village of Grange.
The driver was arrested and charged and will appear before the District Court in the near future.
