POLICE and emergency services are tackling a massive fire at Foyle Port in the Strathfoyle area of Derry.
The fire broke out shortly before 11am, sending huge plumes of smoke into the sky. It is understood that a large storage unit is on fire.
The fire has been declared a major incident. There have been no reports of injuries.
Several units from the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service are tackling the blaze.
A spokesperson for Foyle Port in Derry says they are aware of a fire in one of the sheds on site and that the emergency services are dealing with the incident.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “Motorists are advised that the Port Road in Derry is currently closed due to a large fire.
“Please avoid the area.
“Residents in the area are advised to keep their doors and windows closed and to remain indoors.”
