BALLYBOFEY and Stranorlar Golf Course hosted the Sean Mac Cumhaills Annual Golf Classic last Friday.

Over 45 teams took to the course on a day when the good weather was kept for those who had the early tee times but fair play to all who braved the wet conditions as the day went on.

Credit must go to the grounds keeping staff that had the course in great shape.

A sincere word of praise has to go to Seamus Lafferty from Lafferty’s Buses and Paula Fallon, The Navenny Grill, both represented by Brian Lafferty Jr. on the night, who were the main sponsors once again.

Lafferty’s Buses and The Navenny Grill have been sponsoring this event for a long number of years and along with over 70 tee box sponsors from businesses all over, businesses who entered teams, along with shops that gave water and fruit for the golfers themselves to keep the energy levels up.

The overall runners-up team of Denis Porter, Kevin Keegan, Joe Doherty and George Turner made history on the second hole.

Keegan’s hole-in-one contributed to a 10 points score – the biggest score recorded in a single hole in the history of Ballybofey and Stranorlar Golf Club Classics.

Ballybofey and Stranorlar Golf Club Team Captain Laurence Devaney welcomed the Mac Cumhaill’s club and its members to the golf club and said it was a good day for both clubs.

Sean Mac Cumjaills Club Chairman Terry O’Reilly acknowledged the continued support from all businesses for the Golf Classic and spoke of his gratitude to the Laurence Devaney and the Golf Club for hosting this event year in and year out and always on hand to help.

He also acknowledged Cathal McHugh, P.J Fitzgerald, Alistair Henderson, Mary McHugh and her staff in the Clubhouse for all the hard work they put in with the excellent food and service on offer.
