Redevelopment works on Carndonagh Community Hospital are due to begin in two weeks time, the HSE has confirmed.
The Inishowen hospital is set to undergo a vital upgrade, with works planned to be completed by July 2021.
Patients of the hospital will be transferred to a temporary ward at the Buncrana Community Nursing Unit for the duration of the project.
The capital works are due to include improved patient facilities, refurbishment and extension of the existing residential unit including maximising single and double room occupancy and re-planning and upgrading sanitary accommodation.
The project will enhance accessibility for patients and visitors and providing an extended day room and dining room for patients, with a residents garden area also included.
Carndonagh Community Hospital provides essential services to people needing long term care, convalescence, respite, palliative care and dementia care to people in Inishowen.
The cost of the upgrade is estimated to be in the region of €2,500,000.
