A total of €115k has been awarded to five projects across Donegal under Town and Village Renewal Funding.

The funding comes from the Department of Rural and Community Affairs.

This first tranche of funding announced today under the enhanced Town and Village Renewal Scheme recognises the need to support rural businesses and communities to rebuild in response to COVID-19.
Donegal projects include:

* Bunbeg / Gaoth Dobhair – €36,538 funding for development of Gweedore App and refurbishment of an existing space within the community centre to create waiting area.

* Bundoran – €17,999 funding for Marketing campaign to promote Bundoran through traditional and social media channels

*Ballybofey / Stranorlar – €22,000 for a Marketing campaign to promote Ballybofey and Stranorlar through traditional and social media channels.

*Milford – €22,008 funding to adapt an existing underutilised space within the Milford and District Resource Centre to facilitate remote working

*Carrigans – €17,208 to provide a sheltered waiting and seating area outside a number of local amenities

Donegal Green Party Chairman Michael White said “This funding is a great shot in the arm for local towns and villages. It will provide immediate and practical support to local business and tourism as we recover from the impact of Covid-19”.

Fine Gael Deputy Joe McHugh said, “I am delighted to confirm that 5 Donegal towns and villages will receive support to overcome challenges relating to Covid19 under the first tranche of the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.”
