Man arrested in Letterkenny on rape charges

August 6, 2020

A man has appeared in court charged with two counts of rape and one charge of false imprisonment.

The man, who was arrested at an address in Letterkenny this morning, cannot be named for legal reasons.

Detective Garda Stephen Moyles told Letterkenny District Court he arrested the man and charged him under Section 4/3 of the Criminal Law Act.

The man made no reply when all charges were put to him.

Detective Moyles said Gardai had no objection to bail but the man had to agree to a number of conditions.

They include that he lives at the address given in court, that he has no contact with the injured party, that he signs on three times each week at Letterkenny Garda station and that he surrenders his passport.

The accused agreed to all conditions.

Judge Deirdre Gerathy adjourned the case until November 2nd.
