Full roundup as Donegal Women’s League U12s get back underway

THE Donegal Women’s League resumed last night after a break due to a Covid-19 precaution.

The Under-12 League kicked the league back onto action.

There were wins for Milford, Ballyraine, Gweedore and Lagan.

Raphoe Town 1 Lagan Harps 2

Two goals from Aileen Sweeney saw Lagan Harps pip Raphoe by the narrowest of margins in a superb game at Deele College on Monday night.

The visitors started the game strongly but the Raphoe defence of Maria McGlynn, Libby Sachs and Erin O’Donnell were in great form and young goalkeeper Aoife Browne also made a couple of fine stops.

Hannah Goudie and Cliodhna Kelly linked well on a couple of occasions to get Raphoe away on the break, while under 10s Amy Toner Doonan, Emily Maxwell and Tori Clarke all worked their socks off for the Raphoe girls to try to keep a strong Lagan outfit at bay.

Lagan’s Aisling Mugan however was pulling the strings in midfield and linking well with Amy Moore and Clara Gallagher to create several dangerous attacks, while at the other end any Raphoe efforts in the first half were snuffed out by the ever alert Scarlet Keys and Eva Gibson.

The visitors did carve some chances to break the deadlock and saw one effort from Mugan come back off the post before Aileen Sweeney finally pounced on a loose ball to steer the Lagan girls into a narrow lead in the 20th minute.

Raphoe reshuffled the pack for the second half and with Cliodhna Kelly in attack they posed much more danger to the Lagan defence.

With Kelsey Parke and Daisy Leeper now on the pitch as well, the home side found new rhythm and were rewarded for their efforts when Hannah Goudie playing the ball out from the back linked well with Erin ‘ODonnell and then Libby Sachs passing into Cliodhna Kelly  who raced through to give the home team a well-deserved equaliser.

However Lagan responded with a late goal from Sweeney who raced on to a through ball from Sorcha Keys and even then there was time for drama.

Raphoe pressed and pressed again in search of a second equaliser and it took a great save from Aoibhlin Crawford to deny the home side a share of the spoils in a very entertaining game.

Ballyraine v Bonagee

Ballyraine got off to a flying start last night going three goals up in the first half.

Bonagee fought back hard in the second half and pushed to get the ball up the field with Aoife Porter and Sophie Doherty breaking through several times and it paid off with a lovely goal from Doherty.

However in the end it was Ballyraine’s night with a fantastic score of seven goals.

All the Bonagee girls played their hearts out, with Susannah Carr, Jennifer McElroy Kelly, Aoife Porter and Sophie Doherty putting in outstanding performances.

Kilmacrennan 0 Milford 1

Milford got off to a strong start with an early goal in the second minute of the game from Amy Patton.

Both teams fought a hard battle with both keepers pulling off some great saves.

In a very entertaining game and a strong team effort from both teams, the game finished 1-0 with Milford taking the points.
