A petition has been launched in South Inishowen to add volume to residents’ calls for a reliable water supply.
The campaign, led by Cllr Jack Murray, is calling on Irish Water to carry out a full upgrade of the main water supply line from the Eddie Fullerton Dam.
Water outages have been a frequent occurrence in the area in recent years. In fact, another outage is affecting homes and businesses this Tuesday morning.
The petition says: “Far too frequently, this supply line bursts and impacts upon thousands of people from Buncrana, Fahan, Inch, Tooban, Burnfoot, Bridgend, Muff, Netwoncunningham and Killea.
“This impacts on the way of life for thousands of residents. It affects out schools, medical facilities, community centres and businesses. It is simply unacceptable and would not be tolerated anywhere else in Ireland. We are simply calling for a consistent water supply as would be expected anywhere else.”
In launching the campaign, Cllr Murray said Irish Water needs a clear message from the people of south Inishowen.
Cllr Murray said: “Irish Water have regularly said that they don’t receive enough complaints about the line. If we all add our voice to this then we can send a clear message that we are demanding a consistent water supply as would be expected in any other part of Ireland.”
The petition has gathered almost 200 signatures so far, with the goal set at 1,000.
