Words of thanks following Youth Talk Donegal donation

Donegal Youth Service would like to thank Branch Manager Jim McLaughlin and all of the staff at AIB Letterkenny who chose Donegal Youth Service as one of two charities to receive a €500 donation.

The donation is part of the ‘AIB Together’ initiative, which is supporting groups who are helping communities cope with the impact of Covid-19. The team at AIB chose the one-to-one listening ear project Youth Talk Donegal to receive the funds.

One-to-one support has been in high demand during the Covid-19 Pandemic. From March until June 659 one-to-one sessions took place remotely through Youth Talk Donegal. Young people reported difficulties with their mental health, social isolation, loneliness and difficulties within their families. Youth workers continue to offer support remotely, as well as face to face in a safe way in line with the easing of Government restrictions.

Frankie McGreevy Youth Work manager at Donegal Youth Service has welcomed the donation adding that “this donation is very much appreciated and can be used with immediate effect to help young people to pay for travel costs for their one-to-one meetings.”

A past Youth Talk participant shared what the service meant to them: “The support I received from my worker was fantastic, when I thought nobody cared or wanted to listen, they were there.  I feel now that I’m able to approach anything in a more calm and positive way. When something goes wrong, there’s always another way without feeling like giving up.  I got a new chance to get who I am back, I’m so thankful.”

The service receives no core funding, so fundraising is essential to keep it running, help it expand to meet growing demand, and to keep supporting young people’s wellbeing in our communities.
