Thousands still without power as Storm Ellen hits Donegal

More than 2,000 homes across West Donegal are still without power as Storm Ellen continues to pass over the county.

Despite power outages and some fallen trees, the county escaped relatively unscathed.

The ESB says it could be this afternoon when service is restored to more than 2,000 homes across West Donegal in and around Derrybeg and Gaoth Dobhair.

Yellow wind and rain warnings are still in place, however.

There are no reports of major structural damage or injuries.

Drivers are being encouraged to take extra care and remain alert for falling trees and localised flooding.

There have been trees reported down in Donegal Town.

The weather alert remains in place until tomorrow with further risks of flooding when high tides hit later this morning.
