Donegal Senator Niall Blaney has had the party whip removed from him by Taoiseach and Fianna Fail leader Michael Martin.

It follows confirmation that he attended a Dail golf society function along with up to 80 other people going against Covid protocol rules.

It means that he cannot vote on party matters or attend party briefings amongst other things for a period of time.

Senator Blaney yesterday issued a statement apologising for his attendance.

He said he should not have attended the event and said it was an “error of judgement.”

Mr Martin also removed the party whip from two other Fianna Fail Senators, Paul Daly, Aidan Davitt.

Today the Irish Independent reported that Senator Blaney had to remove between rooms at the function after he won the President’s Prize at the golfing function.
