Met Eireann has updated their Status Orange alert for Donegal and Connacht today as the worst of Storm Francis strikes the west and northwest.
More intense rainfall is expected today, which could lead to flash flooding due to overnight accumulations. This rainfall will further elevate river levels and may result in river flooding also.
Southern counties of Ireland saw high rainfall during the night, but the heaviest and most persistent rain will reach Connacht and Ulster today, leading to flooding.
There will also be strong winds near the coasts, and motorists, property owners and people near beaches and coastal areas are urged to take extreme care.
The updated Orange weather warning will be in effect until 6pm this evening.
Here are the latest rainfall accumulations for the period between 1800 yesterday August 24th and 0600 this morning. 53mm of rain fell at our station in Valentia Observatory for the above period. (1/2) pic.twitter.com/HsMjT9hu1N
