Donegal man to stand trial on eight child sex charges

August 27, 2020

A DONEGAL man has been sent forward for trial on eight child sex charges.

The 29-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Letterkenny District Court.

The man is charged with eight counts of defilement of a child under the age of 17.

A book of evidence has been served on the accused, who did not speak during the brief hearing.

The charges relate to alleged offences on various dates in 2017.

The DPP has consented for the accused to be put forward to be trialled at the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court, which begins on October 27.

A publication order, in order to protect the identity of the victim, was granted.

Judge Deirdre Gearty assigned legal aid to solicitor Donough Cleary and, ‘based on the seriousness of the charges’, granted two legal counsels for the trial.
