Donegal is to get more than €3m under Active Travel and Climate Funding scheme.
The Green Party in Donegal has welcomed the announcement of the fund which was just announced for Donegal by Minister Eamon Ryan.
This consists of €2.52M funding for Active Travel and €781k funding for Climate Adaptation. The funding comes from Minister Ryan’s Department of Climate Action, Communication and Transport.
The Active Travel funding of €2.52M funding is part of a national investment in sustainable transport and renewal of transport infrastructure and includes the provision of new footpaths, cycling infrastructure, greenways and pedestrian bridges.
Projects approved in Donegal cover the county and include:
* €200k for provision of new footpaths in Killybegs
* €80k for provision of new footpaths in Crievesmith Housing Estate in Letterkenny
* €125k for pedestrian safety improvements at Cockhill, Buncrana
* €125k for new footpaths at Lisfannon
* €43k for a new footpath in Gortahork
The €781k funding for Climate Change Adaptation projects approved include
* €250,000 for road protection and improvement at Quigley’s Point, Inishowen
* €100,000 for flood prevention works at Frosses
* €60,000 to improve the sea wall at Rathmullan
* €57,000 for repairs at Ballindrait
Donegal Green Party Chairman Michael White said “This is more good news for Donegal. The funding again demonstrates the priority this government is giving to sustainable travel and climate change adaptation.
“A number of these projects would not have been prioritized by previous governments. And it also shows that Donegal is finally getting a fair share of funding – the approved €3.3M of projects represent a significant investment for the county”.
