Government’s new wage support scheme begins

THE new Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme was rolled out at midnight and will provide support until the end of March next year.

The new scheme replaces the Temporary Wage Subsidy Scheme – currently underpinning the wages of around 370,000 employees.

The Temporary Wage Subsidy Scheme was launched in March.

The new scheme has more stringent guidelines with businesses needing to show a 30 per cent drop, at least, in turnover and the largest subsidy rate is much lower, at a maximum of €203 compared to €410 per week per worker.
