A results day with a difference for Donegal’s Leaving Cert students

It will be a day of mixed emotions for Donegal’s 2,158 Leaving Certificate students as they receive their calculated grades online today.

Students will receive their results from 9am on the Calculated Grades Student Portal.

There will be no traditional school assemblies, nervous opening of envelopes or celebrations at school gates, as the process moves entirely online this year.

The vast majority of the Leaving Cert grades calculated by schools remained the same following a recent review by the Department of Education. A new standardisation process was introduced by Education Minister Norma Foley to ensure that no school’s previous results would play a role in determining grades.

Students will then wait until Friday for their first-round CAO offers.

Students who want to appeal their results will be able to apply from 14th September. Within the Student Portal, students will also be able to access the estimated percentage marks provided by their schools. If a student is still unhappy with their grade, they can opt to sit the exam in November in one or more subjects. The 2020 postponed Leaving Certificate examinations will commence on Monday 16 November, subject to public health advice.

The Leaving Certificate student helpline, at 1800 265 165, which is provided by the National Parents Council post primary (NPC-PP) will be available from 11am on 7 September for students to reach a guidance counsellor with any queries that they may have.  This helpline will operate until after the CAO first round offers and is staffed by qualified guidance counsellors.

Locally, the Letterkenny Youth Information Centre at Donegal Youth Service will be offering online support and advice to students. The chat service will be open from 12pm to 9pm on Monday 7th and Tuesday 8th September during the Leaving Cert results, and 12pm to 9pm on Friday 11th when the CAO offers are released. The chat service can be accessed at www.donegalyouthservice.ie/chat

Letterkenny Institute of Technology will launch a results advice line from Monday to Thursday, along with five other events this week for students, parents and teachers. If you would like to find out more about any of these events visit https://www.lyit.ie/News-Events
