A DONEGAL woman who didn’t get post delivered after her postman was involved in a crash has had charges struck out.
Jackie Herron (32) of Cloghanmore, Cloghan was before Letterkenny District Court charged with not paying a fixed charge penalty notice (FCPN) after being found driving in excess of the speed limit on November 15, 2019.
Ms Herron said she did not get her insurance certificate and a Bord Gais bill, which she had been expecting at the same time and subsequently made enquiries.
Ms Herron, under questioning from Sergeant Jim Collins, said she was expecting a notification and was surprised to receive a summons as she anticipated the FCPN.
Her postman, she said, was involved in an accident. She was unsure if the delivery of mail to many others was affected.
Ms Herron said she realised the absence of her insurance and Bord Gais bills and ‘wouldn’t have known’ when to expect the arrival of the FCPN so did not contact Gardaí.
“I don’t receive much post anymore and I expected those two,” she said.
Judge Paul Kelly struck out the charges.
