The overriding emotion among the St Michael’s camp on Saturday night was frustration as they exited the Donegal SFC having gone down to Kilcar.
Gary O’Neill’s team had trailed by a mammoth 2-9 to 0-3 in Towney towards the end of the first half, but produced a spirited performance to pull themselves back to within two points on a couple of occasions, with Colin McFadden netting and Michael Langan playing through the injury barrier to score 2-1.
However, Kilcar won out on a 3-14 to 3-12 scoreline and O’Neill was a frustrated figure afterwards – of the opinion .Martin McElhinney was upended by a combination of Ciaran McGinley and Mark McHugh for a penalty – whilst also showing pride in his team, who he believes have mixed it with the bog boys in his two years in charge.
