Council buy land to make Buncrana amenity even bigger

Donegal County Council has confirmed it is to buy a chunk of land adjacent to Swan Park in Buncrana.

The area was severely damaged by the floods in August 2017.

Since then the community has fought hard to build the local amenity.

Now the council will purchase a section of land between Crana Bridge and Wilson’s Bridge to make the park even bigger.

It is estimated that up to €2milion will be spent on restoring the park.

Local TD Padraig Mac Lochlainn said he is delighted by the plans.

“The tourism potential is huge when we get our beautiful park open again with this additional land and plans to open O’Doherty Keep to the public and build a visitor centre nearby.

“Congratulations also to the officials of Donegal County Council who have worked so diligently to get to this point.”
