Pupils of a much-valued ASD class in Buncrana are set to benefit from a €4,488 donation thanks to a local man’s recent running challenge.

Matthew Cavanagh from Carndonagh stepped up to a gruelling 4/4/48 marathon challenge in August to raise money for Ms. Hegarty’s ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) class in Scoil Iosagain, Buncrana.

Matthew was inspired by his godson Caolan, who is a pupil of Ms. Hegarty’s, to do something kind for the school.

At the beginning of August, Matthew successfully completed the 4/4/48 challenge of running four miles (6.4km) every four hours for 48 hours. That’s 48 miles in total – almost the equivalent of two marathons.

Matthew was backed by generous supporters every step of the way, and he managed to raise €4,488 to donate to Scoil Iosagain’s services and activities.

Matthew and Caolan proudly donated the large cheque to the school yesterday.

Matthew would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who donated and to the following businesses for their sponsorship and support: Rosato’s Bar & Restaurant, Olivia’s Coffee Shop, Simpson’s Bar & Restaurant and Timber & Duffy Coffee, Muff Liquor Co. and Paul McGowan Health and Fitness.
