A second warning has been issued for Co. Donegal ahead of a very wet and windy night.
Met Eireann has issued a new status yellow wind warning for Donegal and Galway this Saturday evening.
It is set to become very windy this evening and for a time tonight with south to southwest winds reaching mean speeds of 50 to 65km/h, gusting up to 100km/h. Winds will be strongest in coastal areas, forecasters have warned. The warning is in effect from 4pm today until 1am Sunday morning.
A Status Yellow Rainfall Warning has also been issued for Donegal from 5pm today until 5am tomorrow morning. Forecasters say there will be heavy rain at times during the period which will bring a risk of localised flooding. The highest totals of rain will be in the northwest of Donegal.
Motorists are being advised to slow down, watch out for wind-blown debris and be extra mindful of venerable road users.
AA Roadwatch is reminding motorists: “It takes longer to stop on wet roads, so reduce your speed and keep plenty of space between you and other road users.”
