Councillors of the Letterkenny and Glenties municipal areas are being asked to meet to keep the Letterkenny to Burtonport railway project rolling smoothly.
A long-distance walk/cycleway is in development from Letterkenny to West Donegal along disused railway lines. It is hoped that the scheme would be a huge asset for the county, but there are fears that plans are going off track.
Letterkenny-Milford Cllr Michael McBride has this week requested a joint meeting of Letterkenny and Glenties representatives to discuss and plan the completion of the project as a matter of urgency.
“We have a jewel sitting on our doorstep,” Cllr McBride said. “We need to move this forward, there have been other railways or pieces of track that seemed to jump ahead up in the queue.”
The Community Development Department of the Council, working in conjunction with other relevant Council Directorates, has said it will be happy to facilitate a meeting on the matter with the elected members of the two districts.
