A Chapter Closes: North West Words announce end of series

The North West Words reading series has come to a close after ten years.

The initiative has promoted the best of spoken word, music and art in Donegal through monthly events. Established writers, emerging local writers, writing groups, music artists and many other creatives from the north west and across Ireland were involved with the series over the years. Annual competitions inspired poets of all ages to share their work with a wide audience.

The group made the bittersweet announcement today that the series will no longer continue.

A message from the team said: “A sincere thank you for all the support and assistance you have given us over the years.

“The team of volunteers, who have run the organisation since March 2010 have decided to stand down- all activities carried out by North West Words will cease.

“We are very proud of the work we have done over the past ten years in providing a space for Spoken Word events in the North West, as well as hosting Creative Writing Workshops, publishing an on-line Arts magazine and arranging writing Competitions for both Adults and Young writers.

“Our free monthly ‘Gathering’ was a great meeting place for Poetry, Story Telling, Music and Craic- many friendships were formed and remain from meetings at these events.

“Finally, our sincere thanks to our Sponsors and all who contributed to the events during our tenure, we hope you have and hold happy memories of North West Words.

“Yours sincerely,

“Team North West Words

“Annmarie Gallagher, Maria Whelan, Deirdre Hines, Kate Bonar, Rita Harmon, Nick Griffiths & Eamonn Bonner”
