Breaking: 13 new Covid-19 cases confirmed in Donegal

THERE have been another 13 new Covid-19 cases confirmed in Donegal, health officials have said.

There have been three further Covid-19 related deaths recorded in Ireland today and 253 new cases have been notified to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre.

Of today’s 253 cases, 13 are in Donegal.

That means there have been 88 new cases in Donegal in the eight days since September 10th. There have now been a total of 642 positive cases in Donegal.

Earlier, health officials stated that house parties and family gatherings are to blame for some of Donegal’s recent Covid-19 outbreaks.

Dr Anthony Breslin, Director of Public Health, has said that new cases are being detected across the county, and no particular location or workplace is considered a hotspot.

A GAA Championship semi-final scheduled for this weekend has been postponed as one of the competing clubs is awaiting the results of Covid-19 tests for some of its members.

Nationally, there have been 1,792 deaths and 32,271 cases since the outbreak of the coronavirus.

Of the cases notified today, there are 116 in Dublin, 22 in Kildare, 14 in Cork, 14 in Galway, 13 in Donegal, 10 in Limerick, 10 in Louth, 9 in Mayo, 8 in Waterford, 7 in Wicklow and the remaining 30 cases are located in Carlow, Cavan, Clare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Meath, Monaghan, Offaly, Tipperary, Westmeath.

71 per cent are under 45 years of age, 45 per cent are confirmed to be associated with outbreaks or are close contacts of a confirmed case and 61 cases have been identified as community transmission
