A DONEGAL school was one of four nationwide to receive a donation of books from Irish authors and illustrators as part of Culture Night 2020.

Ballymore National School, on the outskirts of Dunfanaghy, took part in the Culture Night yesterday evening.

Just before home time, the children enjoyed the sunshine and reading their new books on the school yard.

“There was great excitement in the various classes as each class group received a specific book suited to their age and class level.” Ballymore NS principal Cáit Ní Chuireáin told Donegal Daily.

“And even more excitement when the children realised they were allowed to keep the books!

The school wishes to say a massive thank you to Children’s Books Ireland and the Arts Council Ireland for providing the children with an array of wonderful books as part of Culture Night 2020 celebrations.”

Reading is invaluable to learning, growth and developments and we encourage parents to encourage reading at every opportunity.

Parents looking for additional age appropriate books, from an array of wonderful Irish based authors should visit https://childrensbooksireland.ie/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/CBI-Books-Make-Things-Better.pdf for a great list of gripping tales to inspire budding readers.
