THE volume of Covid-19 tests completed in Donegal rose by 76 per cent in the last week.

As Donegal stands in danger of being moved up to level 3 restrictions due to the high volume of cases being recorded in the last 10 days, it comes as no surprise that testing figures have rocketed in the county.

Figures provided by the HSE to Donegal Daily show a massive 312 per cent rise in the number of tests conducted per week since the end of August.

In the seven day period from the 14th to 20th of September, there were 2,375 tests carried out in Donegal.

That is in comparison to the 1,348 tests carried out from the 7th to 13th of September – a rise of 76 per cent.

On the week ending August 30, there were 576 tests carried out in Donegal.

In the last eight days, there have been 122 positive cases of the coronavirus detected in Donegal, which accounts for 17 per cent of the county’s total number of infections, which now stands at 701.

Yesterday, there were 21 new cases confirmed in Donegal.

Leading figures from across Donegal issued a blunt warning to the public about the spread of Covid saying ‘it’s in our hands’.

The warning comes as the county sits on the edge of entering a Phase 3 lockdown because of rising numbers of infections in recent weeks.
