DUE to fears of further restrictions being imposed in Donegal before the weekend, First Holy Communion in one Parish has been brought forward.

The First Communions at St Mary’s Church in Stranorlar were due to take place this Saturday.

However, it has been confirmed that these have now been brought forward and will take place tomorrow evening.

Children will receive the Sacrament in two groups with Masses at 5pm and 7pm.

“Due to the worrying rise of Covid cases in Donegal and the high possibility of restrictions been imposed on our county, we have taken the decision to bring the First Holy Communion Masses forward,” a spokesperson said.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused but are keen for the children to receive the Sacrament.”

In the eight days until yesterday, there were 140 new cases of Covid-19 in Donegal – just shy of 20 per cent of the total number in the county since the outbreak began.

There are fears that Donegal will soon be moved onto Level 3 of the government’s Plan For Living With Covid-19.
