Donegal man who had over €13,000 of drugs to stand trial

A DONEGAL man is to stand trial on the possession of over €13,000 worth of controlled drugs.

Gerard Heapes (46) of Cappry, Ballybofey was before Letterkenny District Court in connection with the matter.

Heapes faces charges, dated June 25, 2019.

He is charged with possessing a controlled drug, namely €13,000 worth of cannabis.

Heapes is also charged with possession controlled drug, namely cocaine, on the same date.

Hapes is also charged with being in possession of the controlled drugs for the purpose of selling or supplying.

A book of evidence was sever on Heapes, who is on bail.

Heapes was present in court, but did not speak during the short hearing.

The DPP has consented to Heapes being forwarded for trial to the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court, commencing October 27, 2020.

Judge Paul Kelly assigned legal aid to Mr Patsy Gallagher and granted two legal counsel. A section 56 order, relating to videotapes of interviews, was granted.
