Irish Water has once again been urged to seize an opportunity to extend the Letterkenny Sewerage Scheme to the Bonagee/Dromore area while Four Lane works are carried out later this year.
Residents and businesses of the Bonagee area have faced regular problems due to a lack of main sewer. Repeated calls have been made for a solution over the past two decades, however the mains extension was not considered a priority in Irish Water’s capital plans for 2020-24.
The planned commencement of major roadworks on the N56 Four Lane project would be the “most opportune time” for the company to address the issue once and for all, according to local Councillor Gerry McMonagle.
Cllr McMonagle told the Letterkenny-Milford MD meeting on Tuesday that he was disappointed with the “lack of foresight on behalf of Irish Water” to connect a foul sewer to the Dromore and Bonagee area while the N56 is dug up.
“I can’t for the life of me understand why Irish Water won’t take this opportunity,” Cllr McMonagle said.
“We have a great opportunity put in this trunk sewer, and to save a lot of money when doing so when the Four Lane is being remodelled.”
Cllr McMonagle has put forward a request for Irish Water to reconsider and add the project to their current Capital Plans.
