Driving ban for man whose van was ‘swerving violently’

October 19, 2020

A DONEGAL man whose Transit van was swerving ‘violently’ in Convoy has been disqualified from driving.

Gardaí observed the Transit driving in an erratic manner at Ballyboe, Convoy on February 1, 2020 at 3.25am.

Gardaí had to take evasive action to avoid a collision with the van, which was being driven by Patrick Bradley.

Sergeant Jim Collins told Letterkenny District Court that the Transit was ‘serving onto the wrong side of the road’.

He said: “Gardaí followed and observed the vehicle swerving violently from one side to the other’.

Gardaí stopped the vehicle and, after detecting a strong smell of alcohol from the van, arrested Bradley (41) of Radharc na Coille, Drumkeen.

Sergeant Collins said that Bradley was co-operative with Gardaí.

Solicitor Mr Frank Dorrian said his client ‘regretted’ the matter.

“He has been working in the building industry and the removal of his licence would be an impediment,” Mr Dorrian said

Mr Dorrian asked for a postponement of the matter until March 2021 ’in the hope that he can re-float his income’.

Judge Paul Kelly fined Bradley €350 and disqualified him for three years from April 1, 2021.
