Man served with eleven charges after Glenties shooting incident

A 22 year old man has appeared in court charged in connection with an incident in which a Garda patrol car was shot at.

Stephen Dowling, a father-of-one, appeared at Letterkenny District Court in Co Donegal where he faced 11 charges.

The charges relate to an incident in Glenties in February.

It followed an incident in the early hours of February 22nd, during which shots were fired which resulted in a Garda patrol car and another car being struck.

The court was previously told that Dowling, of Burren Road, Carlow, was arrested after he had visited Donegal on a hunting trip with his uncle and nephew.

He was in Donegal with relatives hunting deer at the landowner’s permission and was intoxicated when the alleged incident happened.

Detective Garda Enda Jennings said he arrested Dowling at High Road in Letterkenny and asked him if he had anything to say in reply to the charges, the accused replied ‘no.’

The charges include criminal damage, possession of a firearm, a knife, ammunition as well as intent to endanger life or cause damage to property.

Judge Paul Kelly adjourned the case until January 18th for the service of a book of evidence in the case.
