Watch: Maxi Curran ‘proud’ of Donegal ladies after ‘sucker punch’

IT WAS a Halloween horror for the Donegal ladies in Cavan this evening.

Sinead Aherne’s goal in the second half gave Dublin a 2-13 to 2-10 win that will haunt Donegal for some time.

Just when Maxi Curran’s Donegal had got to grips, with Nicole Gordon and Geraldine McLaughlin netting goals, Aherne’s shot came off an upright and, somehow, went to the net.

“It’s of little consolation, but the girls did themselves proud and did Donegal proud,” Donegal manager Curran said.

“We went toe-to-toe with them and we gave it a real rattle.

“They gave it everything, especially in the third quarter, and we were sucker-punched with that  We were just working our way back into the game.”
