Level 5 Covid restrictions are set to be lifted across Ireland on December 1st.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said the country is winning the fight against the second wave of Covid with the NPHET likely to advise the move.

Dr Holohan said he’s ‘optimistic’ the country will be in a position to exit Level 5 on December 1

Following questioning in the Dail today Dr Holohan said: “We anticipate that we should be in a position to change on the first of December which is the end of the six week period Government introduced.

“So we’re optimistic that we will find ourselves in a situation where we will be able to recommend the change in measures that are in place at that point of time.

“But that will depend on what the disease is and we’ll make those assessments right the way up to the very last minute before the Government makes a decision.”

Hundreds of businesses across Donegal and the rest of the country have had to close their doors since moving to Level 5.

A pushback could see many of those businesses opening their doors again for a Christmas business rush.
