A stunning photo of Glenveagh National Park is set to be the sole item for auction at this year’s virtual North West Breast Cancer Charity Ball.

The 11th annual North West Breast Cancer Charity ball is going virtual due to Covid-19 restrictions, and activities are well-underway to keep the charity spirit alive to raise vital funds for local breast cancer research.

The important elements of the event have been transferred to social media, with dancing, heartwarming messages and fundraising all being shared online.

Organisers have today unveiled the star lot of the auction – the one and only lot, that is.

A once off laminated print of a 360 degree view of Glenveagh from the castle to Astillion Waterfall is up for grabs this year.

The piece is 8 foot by 2 foot and is from page 124, Donegal’s Atlantic Way by Michael Sugrue. If you would like to make a bid for this wonderful piece you can do so by sending an email to NWBreastCancerBall@gmail.com or by sending a private message to the Facebook page: www.facebook.com/NorthWestBreastCancerCharityBall

Each year the ball raises vital funds for research, all of which is carried out locally at Letterkenny University Hospital. The ball also provides funds for an outreach programme to survivors of breast cancer and supports a number of patient comfort items, including the pink gowns worn by patients and coffee and tea facilities for those attending Breast Centre North West and their families.

A spokesperson said: “The committee would like to express its gratitude to friends of the ball who have supported this venture, including Noel Cunningham, Majella O Donnell, Áine Lawlor, Gabrielle McMonagle, Nikki Bradley and Andrea Gilligan. Our special celebrity guest for this year’s ball, Miriam O Callaghan, has also been in touch with good wishes. If you would like to keep up with news of what is happening this year and make a donation to help assist in the continuing work of this important local charity, here is the link you will need: https://www.ifundraise.ie/NWBreastCancerCharityBall

“You can also follow our progress on a variety of social media platforms: our Facebook page can be found athttps://www.facebook.com/NorthWestBreastCancerCharityBall/ our Instagram account is nwbreastcancerball and our Twitter account is @NWBCancerBall

“And finally…watch out for further news of an exciting virtual event on 27th November, the date originally scheduled for this year’s ball.”
