November 12, 2020

A DONEGAL man attempted to conceal drugs, including a quantity of cocaine, in a porridge box when stopped by Gardaí.

The case of Sean Coyle (27), from High Glen, Carrigart, was before the latest sitting of Letterkenny District Court.

Gardaí were on mobile patrol on December 3, 2018 when they stopped a blue Audi A4 being driven by Coyle.

Gardaí detected a strong smell of cannabis and carried out a search under the misuse of drugs act.

A white powdery substance, confirmed as cocaine, was found concealed in a plastic bag in a porridge box in the car. The cocaine was valued at €100.

Gardaí also found a small amount of cannabis, valued at €10.

Solicitor for the accused, Mr Patsy Gallagher, said his client, a 27-year-old father of two, was currently unemployed and living in the family home with his elderly parents.

Judge Paul Kelly said if Coyle paid €150 to Letterkenny Youth and Community Club, he would not convict.
