A temporary one-way system could be a permanent fixture for Kilmacrennan, as locals are growing to like the layout.
That’s according to local Cllr John O’Donnell, who is asking for the TII to investigate the possibilities of implementing a new traffic flow in the village.
A one-way system is currently in place on Main Street Kilmacrennan to facilitate road realignment, resurfacing and pavement works.
Cllr O’Donnell raised a motion at this week’s meeting of the Letterkenny-Milford MD and said: “Since the contractor has put in place the one way system, the locals have adapted to it very well that is the reason I have the motion in front of the council here today, that we look at options for incorporating a one-way system in Kilmacrennan.”
Cllr O’Donnell suggested that cycle lanes could also be incorporated into the system.
“I think it’s something everybody would welcome,” he said, adding: “I have spoken to the TII at length on this and they would be very much favour.”
In response to the motion, Donegal County Council said its Road Safety Engineer will review the site to examine if it should be put forward for a Road Safety Inspection. If deemed suitable, all options will be considered to address safety issues.
