Gardaí in Donegal have made 25 suspected drink- and drug-drivers arrests so far in November.
In the past three weeks, there have been 12 drink driving arrests and 13 drug-driving arrests.
Some of the arrests were made on the back of detections at Covid-19 travel checkpoints, and gardaí say they will be continuing with Operation Fanacht under government regulations.
Speaking today, Sergeant Eunan Walsh said: “An Garda Síochána in Donegal are appealing to the public to reduce non-essential travel. We have been performing checkpoints and have been using the graduated response to members of the public travelling around the County.
“We will continue with our Operation Fanacht checkpoints and will continue to engage, encourage, educate and as a last resort, enforce in relation to Government regulations.
“Unfortunately the numbers of positive cases are remaining quite high and so we urge the Public to continue to work with us in a bid to stop the spread of Covid-19. “
