St. Eunan’s Cathedral in Letterkenny are planning for extra Christmas masses to accommodate numbers and distancing during the celebrations.
As Ireland looks set to move from Level Five to Level Three next week, the Cathedral Parish is hoping to reopen under a possible change in restrictions. Under the original Level 3, religious services remained online and places of worship are only allowed open for private prayer.
However, St Eunan’s Cathedral is massgoers to register for Christmas services that have been planned, “depending on the impediments that may still be imposed by government.”
Numbers will be “very limited”, a statement said, and priority will be given to parishioners and those who normally attend the Cathedral on a weekly basis.
The prospective Mass times are as follows:
Christmas Eve: 4pm, 6pm, 7.30pm, 9pm, 12 Midnight
Christmas Day: 8am, 9.30am, 11am, 12.30pm
Parishioners are being asked to pre-register for attendance through the Parish Office. Those who had registered for Mass attendance pre-lockdown are asked to confirm their place for Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.
The Cathedral has stated that, while extra services are planned, many parishioners will be unable to physically enter the Cathedral for Christmas Mass.
“We will be preparing resources for you to follow Mass from home and to pray together as a family at home both during Advent and at Christmas,” they said.
