The Donegal County Library Service has announced their Family Time at Your Library Programme, a range of virtual activities designed to engage family members in the enjoyment of reading and sharing stories.

Family Time at Your Library events are designed to support a family-focused approach to reading with children as part of the national Right to Read programme.

The aim is to raise awareness of the benefits of reading and will endeavour to promote reading as a fun and recreational activity for children.

So what do we have in store for you?

We have a range of online activities for families to enjoy including story time and rhyme time sessions. Reading and storytelling with children helps to promote important language and literacy skills and is important for emotional development, family bonds and even helps to inspire the imagination.

We have some wonderful cookery demonstrations in store for the family to enjoy. You might just pick up some tips and be inspired to get the cookery books out!

If that isn’t enough, we have some competitions too. Keep an eye on our social media for a fun elves and anagrams competition. This is not only great fun but literacy based and a nice activity for the family to enjoy together. Check out our fabulous letter writing competition. This activity will help develop literacy skills with a little help and encouragement from family members.

All events are free of charge and in light of current restrictions, all events will be online.

For event details and to see our programme schedule please visit the ‘What’s On’ page on our website www.donegallibrary.ie, or follow Donegal Library Service on Facebook and Twitter.

All events will be made available through our Facebook page and the Donegal County Council YouTube channel.

Don’t forget to have a look at our website for a range of online learning resources including EBooks, E Magazines and EAudiobooks.

In the meantime please keep safe and keep social distancing so that we can see you all soon.
For more information please contact us by email: Familytime@donegalcoco.ie or ring Tel: 074 9361941.
