Buyers to return to mart ringsides from Tuesday

NEWS that buyers will be back around ringside at marts from this week has been welcomed in Donegal.

It has been confirmed that, with Ireland moving to Level 3 restrictions from Tuesday, that buyers will again be at ringside.

The announcement was made by the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue TD, who was speaking at the virtual annual general meeting of the Irish Natura and Hill Farmers’ Association yesterday evening.

The confirmation was welcomed by Donegal FIanna Fáil Councillor Donal Mandy Kelly.

“This is great news for farmers at this busy time of year and in fact the whole farming sector,” Cllr Kelly said.

“This will come as a great relief to farmers in the run up to Christmas. Although we as farmers are very lucky and grateful to have the online buying system there is still nothing to beat being at the ring side, from a buyer’s point of view, to view and inspect the animal before purchasing.”
