A rail link between Letterkenny and Derry could do “great things” for Donegal, according to local Councillor Liam Blaney.
Cllr Blaney is leading a call for Donegal County Council to write to An Taoiseach requesting that the north west rail route be examined under the Shared Island Unit.
Cllr Blaney suggested that the time is right to put forward the request while the government is progressing a feasibility study on a high-
“This kind of connectivity will do great things for Donegal,” Cllr Blaney said.
“This would not only give us a decent service to Dublin, but would connect us to two of the main cities in our country. It would help break down the border and bring a shared future closer to reality.”
Cllr Blaney has asked Cathaoirleach Rena Donaghey to lead a cross-party delegation for council members to meet An Taoiseach, Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan and members of the Oireachtas on the matter.
