Choir making a splash for Inishowen Food Bank

A Buncrana choir is planning to make waves this Christmas with a switch from singing to swimming!

The Motley Crew have come together for Christmas caroling for around 25 years, but Covid-19 has halted those fundraising plans for 2020.

Instead, members of the spirited group have signed up for a sponsored sea swim on the Winter Solstice. While volunteers take a dip in the very cold water at Ludden Beach, they are asking the community to dig deep into their pockets for a local cause.

Funds raised from the sea swim will go towards the Inishowen Food Bank, which was set up in April in response to an identified need in the peninsula that has been exacerbated by COVID-19.

The choir has proudly raised funds to support the homeless, refugees, Vincent de Paul and more over the years and are eager to help those facing poverty in 2020.

Members of the Motley Crew are already braving the elements in training for a safe swim on 21st December at 9am. This date was chosen as the Winter Solstice signifies the start of a new year, with light and hope returning as the days begin to get longer.
