LYIT’s Head of Business Faculty Michael Margey has been appointed as the new President of the Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce.

Margey takes over the role from Jimmy Stafford, who handed over the presidential chain at the Letterkenny Chamber annual general meeting on Tuesday.

The meeting took place in a virtual form, with members tuning in via Zoom to look back on a very challenging and transformative year for the town’s business community.

Margey, a native of Ballyshannon, will be well-positioned to lead the Chamber into a new year of recovery from the impact of Covid-19. Alongside his leadership and education work, he has an extensive profile in academic enterprise and business consulting.

Following his nomination as President last night, Margey commented that he is looking forward to keeping the flag up high for Letterkenny.

He took to social media to thank outgoing President Jimmy Stafford for his fantastic work in 2020 and said: “Has to be #shoplocal, #shopoften #HasToBeLetterkenny this Xmas. To encourage shoppers to support our local business and jobs that have done everything to maintain our safety and stay open.”
