Investigations are underway as residents in Glencolmcille are affected by water issues.
A problem at Owentskna Water Treatment Plant has been impacting homes and businesses over the past 4 days in Gleann Cholm Cille, Málainn Mhóir, Málainn Beag and surrounding areas.
Reduced water production and increased water demand were first experienced by customers on Sunday.
Independent TD for Donegal, Thomas Pringle, said some parts of Glen have been without water for up to six days.
“A national school in Glen was closed today and Monday because they had no water,” Pringle TD said.
Irish Water said it is working closely with Donegal County Council on the issue. Works are underway this morning to restore water to areas affected as quickly and as safely as possible.
“I appreciate this news will not help those Donegal people who are still without water but I will keep on Irish Water until the problem is resolved completely,” Pringle added.
Residents and businesses in the affected areas may experience low water pressure and/or outages this morning while the refilling of water reservoirs is underway.
Once reservoir levels have recovered, normal water supply will begin to be restored. It may take 2-3 hours for normal water supply to return to all customers but it is important to continue to follow the HSE guidance on hand-washing. Irish Water is encouraging customers to conserve water while these works are underway.
