Mountain rescue volunteers carried out an extensive search at the Derryveagh Mountains last night following reports of flashing lights.
The alarm was raised after 5pm on Tuesday when a member of public became concerned that somebody may be in trouble after seeing flashing lights in the popular hiking area.
The Donegal Mountain Rescue Team was tasked to the area and carried out a search in the region where the light was first seen.
However, after more than four hours of searching, nothing was found at the team was stood down.
Gardaí are set to investigate the sighting further, according to DMRT.
Following the call-out, Donegal Mountain Rescue Team shared a post on social media to inform the public that the team is comprised completely of volunteers, who are call 24/7.
“We will remain on call over the festive period,” they said.
