HEIGHTENED Covid-19 restrictions came into place today.

Inter-county travel is now banned while household visits are now under new measures.

People are now only allowed to have visitors from one other household. After January 1, household visits are not permitted.

Hotel guests who were book in for Christmas have to check out today with hotels now only permitted to open for essential purposes.

A record daily high of 1,296 cases of Covid-19 were reported by health officials yesterday.

Contact tracing calls have more than tripled with over 30,000 class now being made in a week.

HSE Chief Executive Paul Reid tweeted today: “Testing & tracing volumes now at alarming levels. Our highest daily tests now at 23,000. Community positivity reaching 10%. Close contacts averaging at 5 people. Tracing calls gone from less than 10K to now over 3OK per week. Please review New Year Plans to keep safe.”
