Letterkenny residents group set-up committee for mural artists

A group of Letterkenny residents have come together to help form a committee in order to support local artists in making creative and inspiring artworks located within Letterkenny town.

Newly formed ‘The A-rt Team’ aim to draw in the town’s local talent and work on having murals at gable ends, building fronts, walls and/or other available spaces.

Committee treasurer, Finn O Donnell said Letterkenny town alone has so many amazing artists but doesn’t have the pleasure in recognising and enjoying their work.

He added “We want to make the town somewhat of an outdoor walking tour art exhibition that publicly displays art pieces from various local artists. I believe it is something new, exciting and unique for Letterkenny and absolutely can be achievable.

“What we want to do is not tell them what to create but to allow them free reign in what they want to design. We will merely be accommodating them by sourcing the funding, obtaining the locations and all the necessary paperwork that is involved. I think we really have the potential in making this happen and invite everyone to get involved in any way they can.

“I would also invite business and property owners in the town to be part of what I believe to be, and huge opportunity in promoting not just the artist but the image of their property and/or business.’

The committee also see the wider benefits of the project that could financially support local artists, promote their works and profiles.

The group believe it could bring an economic tourist boost to the town by attracting people in seeing this one of a kind town-sized exhibit.

With extra tourism comes extra business for local business owners. Those who adopt a mural art piece for their property, can help attract extra customers and boosting the local economy, the committee believe.

You can get in touch with the group through at The A-rt Team on Facebook or contact Finn O Donnell on 0892462633.
